I'm just throwing this out here, but...
Has anyone noticed how poorly career GOV personnel have worked out in Trumps W/H? OTOH, folks in private industry have fared much better?
I've worked both, and am now GOV.
I tell new hires: Have you ever worked with the GOV before?
If the answer is no: Everything here is the exact opposite of what you've known in the private industry. Efficiency, ambition, logic, intelligence, and industry are poison here. Whatever your instinct tells you, do the opposite.
I believe DJT runs the W/H like a business and the majority of the GOV people and he conflict.

Insightful post, FRiend Sentinel.

The one government job I had for just a year was among the worst experiences of my life.

I wrote for newspapers for 25 years but took a detour into public relations for a government agency, almost entirely because the pay and benefits were better.

I can tell you that even after the worst days in the news business I still could take pride in crafting a good story and delivering honest news to our readers — I was the token conservative in all my newsrooms, back in the day when they still allowed such tokens.

But government work is a tangled mass of twisted priorities, protocols, and incentives, with the taxpaying public considered dead last or not at all.
