Vain is vanity. Selfishness. Worthlesness. Twisting His words for your own personal gain or to absolve yourself of your own willful errors.
Yikes. I think I just convicted myself.
**Re:Taking the Lord’s name in vain.**
Dennis Prager has a video on the Ten Commandments in which he elaborates on “Taking the Lord’s name in vain.” He suggests that the term “carry” is more appropriate. We *carry* the Lord’s name in vain when we claim (publicly) that we are Christian but publicly, we do not behave as Christians. This posture is the most harmful to the cause of Christianity. The commandment asserts this is unforgivable.
Another passage that is interesting in light of the hypocrisy that we see is Hebrews 10:25. Forsake not the assembling together [If there is a worship service, be there.] The next phrase is: There are some in the HABIT of missing worship. Following that: If we sin WILLFULLY, there is no forgiveness. A verse later, the metaphor that willful sin is like stomping on the blood of the Lord [my words].
Ms. Pelosi — You are absolutely correct, there WILL BE a reckoning.
