I think we all knew that NSA database would be used for surveillance of opposition pols and citizens wholesale. it is there. It is used. that is a rule of nature. At some point or perhaps already, the database will be combined with Google and Facebook to have a Social Credit system in full bloom lacking only the 200 million cameras all about the country.

How in the hell does anyone access this data without credentials being logged? Do they have like one login that all contractors use? If their record keeping is this sloppy, one has to wonder what other back doors there are, not only in this system, but all government systems that host confidential data.

Absolutely not. Sharing a login would be a big security violation.
It should be a trivial thing to find out who accessed the records and ran the queries. That is, if they really want to know.
Do these senators not have advisors who help them understand how this stuff works? There is enough meat here to start an investigation on how these systems work and what precautions are taken to insure their proper use. I am sure that will happen. Not.
