A date for reopening New Jersey malls has not been announced by Gov. Phil Murphy and a group of mayors is pressing him on why.
The mayors of Bridgewater, Elizabeth, Paramus, Wayne and Woodbridge sent a letter to Murphy this week requesting a quicker reopening of malls in their towns.
Willowbrook Mall is the largest taxpayer in our community and having them closed for so long is hurting our economy severely, Wayne Mayor Chris Vergano said in the letter.
All of the mayors said the economic impact from the closings is substantial.
We have been unable to collect revenue associated with our profit sharing with the Bridgewater Commons which will result in higher property taxes and more financial burden on our residents. Bridgewater Mayor Matthew Moench said...Indoor malls have been closed since March 17, a week before the governor put the state under a near-lockdown stay-at-home order...Murphy said the state will enter Stage 2 of its multi-phase reopening plan on June 15, beginning with reopening outdoor dining and nonessential retail stores. Hair salons and barbershops will follow June 22.

it’s about to get real....taxes to keep services are about to skyrocket...economy is almost at collapse point
Or you could cut discretionary spending. I know. That might be a novel idea for a government....
Never cut spending
NYS is screwed, too, thanks to Cuomo and our legislature...
NY State....
Cuomo shut down the economy and insulted Christians and Jews over trying to gather together to pray.
But took a knee, marched side by side with thousands of “protesters” and praised them for coming together.
AND the stupid New York people gave him yuge poll numbers in approval and popularity. Can hardly wait to re-elect the cretin.
Yes, NYC and nearby urban areas leftist and all others conservative but outvoted. Like MI and CA. Too bad.
Stupid isnt skin deep. It goes clear to the bone. Theres no cure either.
They’re dragging this lockdown crap out as long as they can. Broke, bored, and idle people are more likely to cause trouble.
In my state there's a state law that says property taxes can't be raised more than 2.5% in one year except by referendum.Ten bucks says that our filthy Trump hating Governor will sign some "emergency executive order" allowing cities and towns to do what they want.
you live near palo alto also?
And the local “youth” will overrun them the first weekend
the only-partially-opened Castleton Mall in Indy had a shooting there last week
Can’t find squat about it on local news
Those brick and mortar malls were hurting before the pandemic. Many people had been shopping on line. Even more are now shopping on line. Suspect when the mall reopen there will be even fewer shoppers since many will want to avoid crowds and mingle around strangers. Many more businesses will fail and vacancies will increase even if he opens everything tomorrow, which he should do. People are aware of the risk and if they wish to exercise their freedom and shop, worship or socialize, its up to them. New York city retailers are in even worse shape. The screams for the Federal government to guarantee huge amounts of debt that will never be repaid, will be endless and deafening. It will be another wedge in the Red-Blue divide.
A man was killed Thursday in a shooting at Castleton Square Mall. The coroner has identified him as 23-year-old Trai Terrell. Police say officers were on patrol at the mall when they heard gunshots. Officers went to the scene and saw Terrell on the ground and people running. The shooting happened at the west end of the mall, near the JCPenney store.
"We do believe this was an isolated incident. This was not something where someone randomly came into the mall shooting," said IMPD Ofc. Genae Cook.
I’m not sure I even care about taxes anymore.
The rest of our country / society are so screwed up, taxes are the least of my worries.
“From chaos comes order’’ the Nazis used to say. You’re right. This is what the democrats want. They want to be able to control. This is a dream come true for them.
