US deploys aircraft carriers amid tensions with China

The U.S. has deployed two aircraft carrier strike groups to the Pacific, the USS Ronald Reagan and USS Nimitz, as part of efforts to safeguard against the possibility of another coronavirus outbreak in the region.

The deployments come as China, which has a history of tension with the U.S. in the region, has also increased its presence, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The defense ministry of Taiwan said Tuesday several Chinese jets briefly entered the country’s air defense identification zone, while Japan’s government said a Chinese aircraft carrier and its strike group were sighted making a return trip through the southern part of Japan’s island string for the first time in April.

Do journalists even bother going to school anymore?

I’m not clear what the USS Ronald Reagan and the USS Nimitz are supposed to do about the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The Phalanx CIWS is a pretty amazing weapon, but it’s probably not going to be effective against viruses.

Seems more likely they’re deploying because China has shown increased hostility toward Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong recently and we’re sending them a message to calm down.

Who writes this stuff?

They don’t call them “carriers” for nothing.

With the top brass in the Pentagon openly defying and criticizing Trump of late, why wouldn’t China test us?

We should be sending Patriot anti missile batteries to be deployed in Taiwan. That would send a message.

Also, I would make a trade treaty with Taiwan in exchange
for some of their parts manufacturing supply chains coming
to the USA.

I am building a new computer and its hard to get parts like motherboards, GPU’s, good power supplies, good cases.
Every high end part is out of stock.

"... USS Ronald Reagan and USS Nimitz...."

USS Theodore Roosevelt is in the Philippine Sea
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is in the North Arabian Sea
USS Harry S. Truman is conducting operations in the Virginia Capes and Jacksonville areas
USS Abraham Lincoln is still docked in San Diego
USS John C. Stennis and USS Gerald R. Ford are still docked in Norfolk.

So that's eight - how many do you need?

Seven actually. The Ford is an inoperable training ship and is likely never to be deployed - all ours for a mere $13 billion and counting.

Air deployment of biological weapons goes back to a submarine carried, large bomber with bubonic fleas in clay bombs.

hostility toward Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong, Yeah.
Don’t neglect their little problem along the India China border and also VietNam, Brunei, and the Philippines and Malaysia in that little South China Sea problem the Chi-coms have created.
Seems the Chi-Coms are feeling their oats all over the place.
Go to youtube and check out the Russian military build up and war games the Ruskies have been doing along the Russia China borders. They share a border in two places and both are heavily fortified. Why? Cause neither Russia or China trust each other.

"The Ford is an inoperable training ship and is likely never to be deployed..."

It's the first ship of its class and like every first article is sure to have a heap of issues* - they will work through them.
She does have an assigned air wing.

*(The M-1 Abrams and the Bradley both had serious issues when young. Same with the Osprey. The F-35 is slowly working through her issues.
The Ford is no LCS albatross.)

Tensions with China? As in a possible Hot War?

Just one of my predictions that the USA may face as we head up toward Election Day.

No you are wrong - the problems are pretty much unsolvable unless they tear the ship apart and start over. They just came back from a sea trail and the EMALS launch rate was just terrible - that after millions of dollars in repairs.

The Spy radar does not work, only 4 of the eleven elevators work, the sewage plumbing is a nightmare, as are the marble topped sinks, and that’s just the start of the problems - these were all things that the brass thought, like you, that could be fixed in time but should have been fixed before they were installed. Too late now,

Refer you to this piece:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/33434/navy-shelves-review-that-might-have-cut-ford-class-of-supercarriers-to-just-four-ships

“Persistent troubles with the first-in-class Ford, which has, at best, limited capabilities at this time and looks set to be a non-operational training ship for the foreseeable future, along with the growing costs associated with the subsequent ships in the class ...”
