I had interviewed a black female electrical engineering candidate who graduated sigma cum laude from FAMU. After the most unsuccessful interview ever I asked her if she recognized V=IR, an equation she would have used hundreds of times.

It is shocking - no pun intended! - that anyone could get through a Double-E major without learning that. Hell, she should have learned that in high school physics. I guess you never got to Maxwell's Equations or the meaning of RMS?!

Strange. My final assignment in the Air Force was as commander of an engineering unit. A full third of my engineers and technicians were Blacks. All the engineers, of all races, had degrees from reputable engineering schools. The technicians had either been through Air Force technician school, or had certificates from Community Colleges. All did good work, and I was able to give promotions and awards to both Blacks and Whites on the basis of performance. But that was over forty years ago. Something has gone badly wrong since then. I don't understand it.
