We have promoted many black men and women from factory labor positions to supervisor and manager positions over the years. A few worked out well. The overwhelming majority of them turn the individual into an immediate bully, using their authority to abuse every black worker they can. Our production workers cringe in fear every time we promote from within. When a black person in the factory has a white supervisor the employee has a lot of passive control over the white supervisor. The conduct of that supervisor has to always be measured, non-emotional, and consistent. It's the exact opposite when there is a black supervisor over a black employee.
