Colin Powell, who hasnt voted for a Republican in the last 16 years, excited the mainstream media when he announced that he was again going to vote for a Democrat. Powell is a joke, and probably a high-level leaker, so he deserves to be ignored. However, he represents something more serious, which is retired admirals and generals using the goodwill they earned serving in the military in service to the Deep State.
Whatever respect I had for Powell died when I learned that he was one of the loudest voices telling Bush Sr. to pull out of the First Gulf War, allowing Saddam Hussein to stay in power, and therefore contributing indirectly to the Iraq War. Ive also long suspected that he was the main source for Bob Woodwards nasty Plan of Attack, which painted Bush as a dummy and Powell as a prescient saint.
The problem, though, isnt Powell, whos yesterdays news. Its the long list of retired military officers attacking Trump, most of whom escaped Obamas firing of almost 200 military officers.
Those firings had the smell of a purge about them, especially considering Obamas vision for the U.S. military. His practical, strategic, and tactical demands on the military (e.g., draw-downs, aiding Americas enemies, unduly restrictive rules of engagement) and his extensive efforts to turn our military into a social justice experiment (e.g., women in combat, so-called transgenders in the military, etc.), hinted that his decisions about officers were not primarily aimed at ensuring that our military was the best, most honorable fighting machine in the world. Obama had other goals in mind.
The most touted anti-Trump statement came from William H. McRaven, the Admiral (now retired), who oversaw the Osama bin Laden mission.

Anti Americans. When was the last War we won??
RE: When was the last War we won??
Declared or undeclared?
WW2
Theres a reason the founders ensured that control of the military would be in civilian hands. While career military personnel fill a critical skill set its very narrow and limited to the science of war. Beyond that, their comments and opinions should be very suspect.
Love Tom Cotton’s opinion of Powell.
Irony.
Sixteen years ago, I called Colon Bowell for what we was/is: an Affirmative Action appointee who was directly responsible for not stopping Saddam when we had the first chance.
I got howled off FR by the self-appointed race police.
Where are my detractors now?
I can say with righteousness: I told you so.
Fun exercise. Take a general’s name and plug into a web search engine along with council on foreign relations. Now you know their true loyalty.
I would guess the GOP vote among military pensioners runs north of 60%.

He found their G-spot.
And it is not spelled GPS.
My BIL was high up in the pentagon near the top. Military. Die in the wool liberal, loved Obama , hates Trump.
When we visit my gives me strict orders not to talk politics.
MIL+CFR=FUBAR
I used to rather admire Powell when I found out that one of his hobbies was restoring(hope I got this right)old Volvos. As an ex-technician, I guess we had something in common. But now, considering his politics, I don’t think we have that much in common any more.
Democrats are undoubtedly planning on using all these NeverTrump Democrats to support Biden. The media will troop these retired officers out in their snazzy uniforms and make much of their service. When they do so, it’s up to you to remember who these men are and what they value.
I thought campaigning in uniform was verboten - retired, or active duty... Guess I was wrong.
Or maybe, that’s just for us enlisted types...
US military-industrial complex has become the deep state. This beast will turn on USAians before long; its head is already filled with confusion and lies. Infiltrated at every level by enemies of USA.
We saw what happened when Saddam was killed and a vacuum was created in Baghdad. If we had kept the Iraqi Guards and military together as a going concern, and established a military dictatorship, and kept it in place until all of the warring factions had truly come together, then maybe Iraq would be a decent place to live right now.
But that was never going to be allowed by the "International Community". So getting the hell out as soon as possible was the best course of action. The only bad decision was going back in.
Sad but probably true.
