The National Instant background Check System (NICS) numbers have been released for May, 2020. As expected, they are breaking records.
They are, at 3,066,740, the second-largest single month for NICS checks, ever, only exceeded by December, 2015.
The continuing, growing number of NICS checks for carry permits and carry permit rechecks, renders the total number of NICS less and less related to the total number of firearms sold.
The FBI allows access to a breakdown of what the checks are done for, by type of firearm purchased. By adding those numbers, we can obtain a good approximation of the total number of firearms sold. The formula used is checks done for Handguns + Long guns + Other + (2.5 times the number done for multiple firearms on one check) = total firearms sold.
In May, 2020, that was the highest number of firearms sold in the month of May ever recorded, about 1,580,341 firearms.Courtesy Dean Weingarten, May 2020 NICS
The total sold so far in 2020, according to the formula, has been right at eight million, within a reasonable margin of error. (7,978,582 is 99.97% of eight million).
Compare eight million firearms sold in the first five months of 2020, with the first and second record years of firearms added to the private stock in 2013 and 2016.
Firearms sold are not exactly the same as firearms added to the private stock, but the numbers are close.
In 2013, the total added for the year was 16 million and thirty thousand.
In 2016, the total added for the year was 16 million and 260 thousand.
We are far from halfway through 2020. If we continue firearm sales at this pace, the total added to the private stock for 2020 could break all records at more than 18 million.

I was going to say obama only did one thing right; he was gun salesman of the year for 8 years in a row.
Since this is the result of the Chi-com flu, shouldn’t Xi get the honors?
Globalist Democrat and GOPe Insurrectionists - greatest gun seller in the, well, world!!
I think the insane Democrats are REALLY the gun salesmen. I was at a new range/store yesterday. Place was packed. Lot of purchasing happening, including myself.
All PDJT has done is declare he will protect our 2nd Amendment rights which include the right of self defense.
The real “gun salesmen” are evil liberal governors, police chiefs, and academics who hate gun rights while saying that white people suck and must be made to atone for their sins.
This translates into riots, arson, and looting, and people are scared. William F. Buckley once wrote that when government fails to protect, the people are forced back upon their own personal resources.
And those resources, said WFB, include guns.
“Over 450 million guns in the United States.”
Yes, WELL OVER that number. Those estimates assume guns have a limited lifespan. The real number is well over a billion. The “experts” do not realize that a 70 year old gun is just as useful as a 7 week old gun as long is it is not at the bottom of a lake.
It’s not President Trump who is the greatest gun salesman in history, it is the terror arm of the Democrat party (Antifa).
A lot more guns would have been sold but the gun shops and distributors ran out of guns.
Auntie Fa is the best gun saleswoman ever.
Can’t buy half of them in the blue states like CT.
Rioting in the streets tends to increase the number of people who think they need a gun.
70% of the people this week were first time buyers.
Trump has no active interest in how many guns you or I or any of the rest of us own.
That distinction belongs with the people who are making clear to the heretofore uninformed the necessity to own guns.
Yesterday some guy shot and killed a Sheriff's deputy in California, and in Colorado an innocent man, a disabled veteran named Pruitt happened to drive by a BLM protest and was shot right smack in the head for it.
The people committing these crimes are the ones who are getting people's attention and helping them understand that firearms are a necessity for free, law abiding people.
Though there were more than 500 killings this year, Chicago is poised to finish the decade with the fewest murders in a given year since 2015 capping a decade that saw more than 5,200 people killed throughout the city.
As of Monday, the Chicago Police Department had tallied 491 murders on the year. The total is down from the 579 recorded in 2018, the 670 in 2017 and the nearly 800 recorded in 2016. The Cook County medical examiners office, meanwhile, has found 510 deaths in Chicago in 2019 were homicides.
This is a milestone for us, its not success though, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Monday.
Need I say more? Don't need the police? What WILL the numbers be in Murder Town USA if they have their activists policing the streets? It will go into five figures, each year, not a decade. The criminal gangs will rule the city, as they almost do now. This will be all the streets of the Dimocrat run large cities. THIS is why all of us live out in the suburbs and country and not in the gulags of Dimocrat run murder slum cities. I have a nice one acre yard with very clear fields of fire. I shoot and my wife shoots, often. We stay steady with our shooting so that we stay READY!!! Be prepared folks. We DO NOT know when this crap of the Dimocrat run riots and mayhem will come to our areas. Stay ready. Stay armed. Defend yourself and your family.
I asked our county sheriff how long it would take to get a car to my home if I called in an emergency. He said IF one was not out in our area and he had to dispatch one from near the city it could take 30 MINUTES to get a car here!!! THAT is why I stay armed. In 30 minutes they could load everything we had in a U-haul and be gone, driving over our dead bodies. Stay armed and ready.
Gun manufacturing stocks is booming. Strum Ruger and Smith &Wesson hit new highs...
Discuss mutual defense.
It is the start of a neighborhood militia.
Armed and Ready,,,
Keep Your Powder Dry FRiend.
He passed bill clinton, B hussein, and Irish Bob o’rourke?
I went to my local Fin Feather and Fur store yesterday to purchase some ammunition. The line into the store stretched a block. Black, white young and old.
After 20 minutes in line the man in front of me asks, “are you here to pick up your firearm or choose which one to buy?” I replied neither, I just needed some range ammo.
He said, “Oh, that’s the non-line to the right, you don’t have to wait, this line is for firearm purchases only.”
When I walked in they had 3 guys with carts stocking ammo on the shelves. As they set it out, ubiquitous hands were reaching out and grabbing it up just as quickly.
It kind of freaked me out a bit and was somewhat reminiscent of being called for deployment in the military and the frenzied weapons line at the armory.
The middle-aged guy in the front of me at check out inquired on spring-fatigue and if it would ruin his rifle magazines to keep them loaded, because as he said, “I’m damn sure keeping 200 rounds ready to go, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.”
I was pleased to get what I needed, but that was the most surreal visit to my local gun store yet.
