California grants another extension to BYD in delivering $1B order of N95 masks

Two months after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a nearly $1-billion deal with Chinese automaker BYD to purchase respirators, California has yet to receive any of the much-needed N95 masks. And on Friday, state officials announced that they would give the company a second extension to deliver on its promise...

...While state lawmakers said they understood the state's desire to buy the critical supplies, the governor received bipartisan blowback for how his administration handled the deal.

When/if the masks are delivered, they will sit in a warehouse, probably never used.

Where’s that picture of the Chinese guy stomping all over masks supposedly to be sent to the US?

We should be suspect of everything out of China. Cut all ties with them. Bring back Made in the USA.

The money went to insiders.
The company that it went to had existed for just three days.

FTA: Wired $456.9 million on March 26 to Blue Flame Medical LLC — then scrambled to get the money back hours later. The company was incorporated on March 23 by two Republican operatives, Mike Gula and John Thomas, with no track record in the medical supplies field.
