Yes Jim you are. We still elect our sheriffs. Even here in NY. Have faith my FRiend.

Sheriffs don't approve their own budgets, Mayors and city councils do. You could end up with a good chief who only oversees two deputies.

And when the councilors showed up I’d ask why they cut the sheriff’s budget.
