Rep. Max Rose (D-NY) of New York’s Staten Island declared that Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has lost control of the city’s streets and called for the deployment of the National Guard to assist with enforcing Tuesday’s 8 p.m. curfew.
Rose said in a statement that the “majority of the protests yesterday were peaceful,” but he acknowledged the “mayhem that occurred in parts of the city last night—the unprecedented looting and attacks on officers and bystanders.”
“It was not part of the movement to ensure justice for George Floyd and other victims of police brutality. And anyone who would say so is being dishonest at best,” he continued before taking aim at de Blasio directly.

From what I’ve read about him, Rose is one of a handful of halfway sane Democrats.

Thank God for some sanity. I can’t believe that NYC is letting this happen. I grew up there and I still have family there but I can’t reach them. Talked a day ago, but communications don’t seem to be very good right now.
But getting back to the topic, if the mayor is proud of his daughter who got arrested stirring up trouble for what is theoretically his city, yes, I can believe it.
Trump should stand down and let these democratic governors and mayors solve the rioting. Eventually the dems will start turning on each other.

Frankly, I don’t care why he’s doing it. That’s local politics, and if a red majority makes a blue pol get more realistic, that’s fine. Other Dems elected by a fluke, as he appears to have been, haven’t done squat, so at least give him credit for listening to the constituency. Or maybe even caring about his city, now that push has come to shove.
okay you probably shouldn’t speak about a place you don’t live in. Staten island is very conservative. If you did any reading or research at all you would see that part of Brooklyn is in our district and that’s why a hardcore conservative could never win. But Staten island elected officials are conservative. Do some research next time don’t be so lazy.
We also have the minorities on the NorthShore that make it difficult to have a hardcore conservative run for house seat.
The Asians have destroyed us in Brooklyn. they are part of our district now and they vote Democrat.
