Prof. Neil Ferguson whose grim warnings via his model prompted Boris Johnson to order TOTAL LOCKDOWN admits Sweden may have suppressed Covid-19 to the same level but WITHOUT draconian measures

The professor whose grim warning that 500,000 Brits may die from Covid-19 without action triggered lockdown has admitted Sweden may have suppressed its outbreak as well as Britain - without imposing the draconian measures.

Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, revealed he had the 'greatest respect' for the Scandinavian nation, which has managed to suffer fewer deaths per capita than the UK.

He made the comments at a House of Lords Science and Technology Committee today during his first public appearance since flouting stay at home rules to have secret trysts with his married mistress last month.

The epidemiologist - dubbed Professor Lockdown - has come under fire for his modelling which predicted half a million Britons could die from Covid-19 and heavily influenced the UK's decision to rush into a nationwide quarantine.

Professor Ferguson appeared to praise Sweden for keeping infections low without the economically crippling curbs and said 'they have gone quite a long way to [achieving] the same effect'.

But when he was grilled by peers about whether the measures were really necessary in the UK, he pointed out that Sweden's infection rate had not fallen as rapidly as the Britain's.

The UK has a death rate of 575 people per million, while Sweden's is significantly lower at 436 per million. As well as fewer deaths, Sweden's GDP actually grew in the first quarter of 2020, suggesting it might avoid the worst of the economic fallout from the crisis.

Also in his return to the public spotlight, Professor Ferguson:

* Defended his team's modelling which predicted a staggering amount of UK deaths, claiming scientists around the world used similar calculations;

* Expressed shock at how badly care home populations were protected globally, saying staff should have been prioritised for testing;

This imbecile violated his own stupid *lockdown* to visit with his married girlfriend.

Ferguson has a long track record of being wrong about *everything*.

Reports also say that Sweden’s economy was depressed to the same level without draconian measures.

But their population death rate is clearly higher.

Their case fatality rate is 12% which probably means they aren’t doing much testing.

And antibody studies if accurate, say that only 7.3% have been infected so far in Sweden, So they are only at 10% of herd immunity.

IIRC this was the guy from the top British university who was being “entertained” by his galpal during the lockdown.

Fauci and Brix, both Democrats, are responsible for leading this country down a path of destruction.

So let me get this straight. Mayors are arresting barbers and salon owners and congregants but these groups are allowed to destroy cities with NO retribution? Law abiding workers go to jail and criminals just walk free-Dems in charge

Why do you say their population death rate is clearly higher?
Both seem to have peaked in new cases and are back down to end of March numbers. UK lost .00062 (.062%) of it total population, while Sweden lost less, .00043 (.043%). I haven't looked into the economy numbers, but I assume they were adversely affected by the rest of the world shutting down.

LOL

UK and Sweden are not comparable societies.

Sweden and Norway are comparable.

Sweden deaths per million 443 revised GDP 2020 Q1 -.3%

Norway deaths per million 44 revised GDP 2020 Q1 -1.55% and much of that is the decline in oil prices.

Sweden had an extra 4k corpses(so far) for an extra ~1.25% in GDP.

Was it worth it?

RE: Sweden had an extra 4k corpses(so far) for an extra ~1.25% in GDP.

Since we know that a lot of the victims were in immigrant communities ( read Muslim ), maybe we should also ask how many such people are in Norway compared to Sweden.

Sweden just passed France for mortality rates. U.K has been ahead of all but San Marino (population 33,000) and Belgium (headquarters of EU and NATO, and thus a high value target). U.K., like Sweden, started with a herd immunity plan. Medical bosses all around the world view the human population as a herd. Brazil, Russia, India, and Mexico all have active and rising Covid infections, with only Russia avoiding high mortality in official reports.
Here in these united states, the worst is over, as the 50,000 dead in nursing homes finally led to proper precautions for high-risk populations.
That said, it’s mostly the over age 65/nursing home/medically compromised at risk, so please take precautions when dealing with the elderly. No reason to shut down the rest of society as a “virtue” signal.

This is why if we are ever again in my lifetime confronted with a pandemic we are in trouble. These epidemiologists will never be trusted gain.

go to worldometers coronavirus update.
Go to countries.

Look at Sweden, look at the US.
Sweden is higher.
