Pennsylvania State Police on Saturday responded to a call to assist Harrisburg Police in responding to protests in Harrisburg that had turned violent.
In an email to PennLive, Trooper Brent Miller, the spokesman for state police, said: “Local departments have requested the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers are currently responding to the Harrisburg Area to assist.”
Reports of multiple other local law enforcement departments had been received.
Saturday’s Black Lives Matter rally in Harrisburg, which had gathered in protest of the George Floyd death in police custody, began peacefully around noon but a few hours later, deteriorated into violent clashes between protest participants and police.
The scene unfolded near the state Capitol as police in riot gear clashed with protesters.
At least one brick had been thrown at a police car, according to an eye witness; and scores of people reported tear gas being used on the crowd.
There were reports of people chanting obscenities at officers. Police reportedly used pepper spray into the crowd.
“The peaceful protest has ceased. That part is over,” said Alexia Brown, a college student from the Harrisburg area who took part in the protest earlier in the day, but remained at a distance to watch the violent clash. “There was a march started along Front Street with a lot of cops...a lot of cops came out in riot gear and were being very aggressive to those marching.” <

Eamonn Wrightstone, the organizer of Saturday’s Black Lives Matter gathering told PennLive that the scene was volatile and scary.
“People have been hit, children have been tear gassed,” he wrote.
Whatever happened to water canons. They seemed effective at dispersing groups.

They are out there saying they’re protesting peacefully but then the police show up and are just basically watching at that point, taking no action then all the sudden people start throwing Bricks at them or what not, then the police act and Send teargas their way And suddenly is the police department fault they are violent.

Those were called “Hush Puppies”. First used to disable canine security when they were making a raid. Later they were used for riot control by shooting rioters on the legs. Suppressed 10-22 Rugers.

I agree. Break out the water cannons, rubber bullets, tear gas. Also might want to bring in those military weapons that have the shield on front which gives off a “very” warm glow for those lucky enough to be in its vicinity. Make it uncomfortable for those coming in to destroy communities. Might be a good idea to let some air out of the tires of the busses bringing these types in to rile up the crowds so that they can’t beat a hasty retreat when they deem their work is done.
