DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — As unrest spread across dozens of American cities on Friday, the Pentagon took the rare step of ordering the Army to put several active-duty U.S. military police units on the ready to deploy to Minneapolis, where the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests.

Soldiers from Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York have been ordered to be ready to deploy within four hours if called, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders. Soldiers in Fort Carson, in Colorado, and Fort Riley in Kansas have been told to be ready within 24 hours. The people did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations.

The get-ready orders were sent verbally on Friday, after President Donald Trump asked Defense Secretary Mark Esper for military options to help quell the unrest in Minneapolis after protests descended into looting and arson in some parts of the city.

That’s always worked out really well when we’ve sent troops anywhere with no ammo and piss poor ROE.

”US military has non-lethal Heatray. Use that stuff”

That’s what I referred to: ADS, Active Denial System. Microwave them until they have to run. Searing pain , but no injury at all.

they’re not getting more stupid, they’re getting smarter.

those who read a lot tonight would have seen more than a few leaders and rioters saying it was time to take it to the suburbs.

then it won’t be so great to see things burn

Right, it’s a terrible idea. Start with tear gas and pepper balls and rubber bullets if necessary. Have the real thing on standby just in case.

ADS - and those night sticks can do a job too.

It’s so clear to me, ANTIFA is trying to exploit this whole thing; let’s not play into their hands

The President cannot send troops until/unless the state governors ask for them. Have they asked?

MPs have two roles, and they get assigned to one of two types of units: (1) assigned to a base to enforce base laws much like a regular police force, and (2) MPs assigned to a tactical unit to provide MP support for the operating forces. In both cases the Uniform Code of Military Justice is in view.

Whereas MPs are accustomed to making arrests, an infantry unit doesn't. Infantry unit troops are not interested in talking. They dispense violence. There is no sense calling up troops to make arrests. That is what police, sheriffs, and state police are for, and to a lesser degree, the National Guard.

Using federal troops to do this job sets a bad precedent.

Lebanon was war zone - I totally agree that was a disaster. You don’t want some young buck going crazy here - that’s all I’m saying.

Progressive libtard mayors and Governors are utter wussies. They could not beat themselves out of wet paper bags even with the National Guard. Trump needs to Federalize the National Guard and lock this sh*t down in Minn., etc., period. Enough is enough; this sh*t has moved way way beyond “justice” for Floyd.

These are state issues not federal. Keep the US military out of these things unless the governor asks for limited support. This is why our national guard is structured around the state and reports to the governors. No matter how bad things get keep the US military out

Antifa is hoping to establish a moral equivalency between what the US does with riots and what China intends to do with Hong Kong protests.
