The world has seen the US military do some impressive things in the past few decades — but I think during this time our military has always been shackled. We want to win hearts and minds. We want to nation build. To a large extent to have not used out military for its true purpose — kill people and break things.
If China pushes us, President Trump will actually use the military. It will be damn impressive. And I bet India would help.
The article vaguely implies that Russia might support China. I say not a chance. If China makes a move, the US, India and Russia will all stand against China. It will be a short war and no one will care what the UN thinks about it.
And I bet India would help.

India is now faced with what appears to be a major push by the PLA on the Line of Demarcation at 14.000 feet - photos show in addition to the troops that have already engaged the Indian troops (fist fights), they are bringing up towed arty and mech units (tanks, troop carriers, specialized tracked vehicles. etc).
China is getting troops combat experience and testing new weapons systems in a extremely remote mountain area where other powers cannot interfere.
Russia would possibly only support China if another power attacked China, but not if China attacked first.
China will not push the US directly. They are not stupid. They will push all around US interests like India, Taiwan, HK, Japan, Korea.
If there is a war with US involved it will not be short and will be very bloody - the US may lose assets like carriers, destroyers, planes, and lots of troops. China’s supply lines are short, US lines are long. In numbers of capital assets, China has more ships and planes. Their troops are expendable by the thousands, US troops are not. Quantity vs quality; and given the lapses in Navy training these days, I’m not sure the US can claim quality.
I support Trump, but would he risk war with China? What would it take? Part of me wonders if a generic Democrat may be more willing to risk war, since the institutions, many Republicans in DC, and the media support Democrats instinctively.
