My belief is that China (meaning the CCP) should NOT in any case be underestimated. I absolutely believe they are engaged in a true Hitlerian long term effort at world conquest or at least domination. Through voracious tech transfer and brazen theft, military buildup, biotech attack probes like CV-19, and a full on disregard for the opinion of the “international community”.
Taiwan is next. Count on it.
I'm not sure I follow the mindset. What we refuse to see can't hurt us? Is there anything going on here, anything the ChiComs might do, that will make things much worse?
The world doesn't stop because we're distracted. If anything, the opposite.

If that is the aim of the Chicoms they are being about as stupid about it as possible. Border clashes with India now to go along with Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines. Increasingly hostile toward America, Britain and Australia and continuing to try to bully Taiwan. They’ve just about surrounded themselves with counties who have reason to fear and despise them. They still don’t have a blue water navy anywhere near strong enough to keep Middle Eastern oil flowing in.
While it is old news, the fact is that even with over 100X the population, China LOST its last major engagement with a minor Asian power, Viet Nam.
While China can cause some pain, they are unlikely to succeed in a conflict with the US and then there is the whole NATO part of the equation.

As you note, that is old news. That was before the American free traitors saw fit to finance China’s military build up, and supply them with intellectual property.
China now has sent men into space and landed a rover on the moon. I am not well educated regarding China’s military potential, but I would bet it has improved immeasurably since Viet Nam.
I just read the US Naval reports on plane and ship readiness, efficiency, and accidents. You need to take the red pill.
They laid the foundation for their justification by spreading the lie that the US really gave them the Wuhan virus.
China is surrounded by enemies that will sink their navy in no time.
