That sure is not the way it looks to me.
Police exist to enforce the orders of Rulers. If the Rulers want people and property protected, the Police will do that. But when it is not their people and their property, the Rulers just do not care. Police have a lot of rules and follow orders if they want to keep their jobs.
Besides, the Police are completely outnumbered and cannot do all that much. I'm not really sure we want them to do all that much.
They did a fine job of protecting the Police Department Building from rioters. The Target and Aldi stores - not quite such a fine job. A bunch of people in that neighborhood will need to travel a whole lot further to buy groceries now.
Just found out that the rioters breached the Police Department building and set it on fire. It has been totally destroyed. Officers on the rooftop had to be evacuated by helicopter.
Maybe the entire department should just be abolished.
But they sure as hell protected the killer cop when protesters came to his house.
I heard a police official state that the police were not responsible for protecting the businesses and owners.
Ok
The corollary would be..
Each person is responsible for their own safety and use whatever is needed to do that.
