I heard Gov. Huckabee today on Outnumbered and he said social media should work like phone lines. They should provide the lines (platforms) and let the people say what they want.
The mainstream media does not have freedom of speech. They have a powerful collective hysteria sway, much like shouting fire in theater is illegal.
Agree with Huckabee.
These sites are are common carriers.
So what that means is the taxpayers will have to buy Twitter, Facebook and YouTube (at least).
Imposing those restrictions would clearly be a taking by government because it would destroy their businesses.
Then we'll have federal government owned sites where each post and comment will be spammed with keto diet tips, Pepe memes, Dr. Zev's hydroxy cure and all manner of trolling - and the government won't be able to do a thing about it because of the first amendment.
Sounds great Huck, and all with our tax dollars.
Or, like Rush said, social media should be like “empty vessels” where people pour in their input. A vessel doesn’t decide what goes in, stays in, etc. It’s just their to receive stuff.
Exactly. They can be a publisher, in which case, they’re totally open to civil liability for their content moderation.
Or they can be a platform, and only take down activity that violates the law (incitement to violence, child porn, etc.).
Have to disagree. The lines are the cable and fiber. Social media companies are like the businesses at the ends of the phone lines. Shows the lack of understanding from the current crop of “leaders” when it comes to technology.
