Section 230 Of the Community Decency Act of 1996 begins with a preamble that states that a robust internet allowing all views, and forms of expression political and otherwise are very important for free speech but that lewd and lascivious content is to be blocked to children.
Two types of net providers: Publishers and providers.
Providers, “platforms” just provide a format for users. Publishers edit content. We don’ need no conservatives here.
Providers are immune from lawsuits, not publishers - this is what FB, google, instagram - all social media rely upon for immunity from suit.
If they edit they’re publishers and no longer immune. Censor any thing but lewd and lascivious and they lose that. Banned for declaring islam a war plan? Sue. Banned for any cleanly defined free speech? Sue.
Its just sitting there waiting for an Executive order for the Justice Dept. to come to a social platform agreement to stop banning speech or shut them down.
I’ll get you a 230 Link. - Dinnertime. ;-)
Many thanks for the great explanation.
