Forty-eight homeless people an average of six per week died in San Francisco between March 30 and May 24, according to Dr. Barry Zevin, director of the Department of Public Healths Street Medicine Team. For comparison, 14 people died in the same time period last year.
The causes, pending official confirmation, may have more to do with the lockdown than the coronavirus itself, as many homeless people had less access to medical services and other needs......An even more important factor may simply have been drug overdoses, as there was an explosion of fentanyl on San Franciscos streetsover the past two years, the Chronicle notes.
The Chronicle notes: The number of tents and makeshift structures throughout the Tenderloin neighborhood exploded by 285% between January and May, according to city data. The city as a whole saw a 71% increase in tents and structures during that period.
In Los Angeles, officials recently reversed a policy of moving homeless people indoors to recreation centers in residential areas. The policy had faced local opposition, especially as it appeared to conflict with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
San Francisco also opened its first officially-sanctioned homeless camp near City Hall earlier this week, with tents spaced widely.

Homeless people groups catching Coronavirus are virtually non-existent. Sun must help...and perhaps lack of vaccinations?
Ameeerica...the beautiful....
Tents don't get coronavirus, people do.
And homeless people have demonstrated they are not exactly good at following rules.
Even though I believe the coronavirus is a real virus I believe we were mislead on how easy this thing can transfer from person to person. It seems it doesn’t transfer that easily according to the real data coming out.
THis as the Mayor wants to allow sidewalk dining at eating venues. Man, pass the gray poopon.
Outdoor air is often better than indoor air, particularly now with less pollution (less driving in L.A.). Sun in the morning and open air at night. Better than being shut in in nursing homes.
Some nice tents out there.
Homeless are not getting the virus because they are OUTDOORS. Lockdowns spread the virus because people are locked INDOORS.
Speaking of which. How are those prisoners doing that intentionally tried to get covid? Funny how that didn’t result in a mass breakout. Or did they all just die and nobody cares because most of them were black?
Don’t take the brown acid!
