The California Department of Public Health announced on Monday that places of worship and in-store retail shopping can reopen across the state, pending approval from the individual counties. New guidelines have also been issued in order for reopening.
Under the new guidelines, places of worship can hold religious ceremonies and funerals that limit attendance to 25% of the buildings capacity or up to 100 attendees, whichever is lower. This is subject to approval by each countys department of public health.

All retail stores, which had previously reopened in certain counties, can now reopen statewide for in-store shopping, subject to approval by county public health departments. This does not include personal services like hair salons, nail salons and barbershops. The guidelines that were already in place for in-store retail, including social distancing, proper use of face coverings and temperatures screenings for employees, apply.

How nice of them to let us have some of our freedoms back (sarc/off)
Churches...blinked.
Anti-Christs gonna anti-Christ.
I think most Pastors would be happy if their churches were at 25% capacity even before the lockdown. And church-goers been practicing social distancing since before social distancing was mandatory
Let’s see The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels has a capacity of 3,000. 100 attendees allowed in a cathedral of 3,000. The mind boggles.
We are going to have have Kray computers to figure out how to space our churches.
Also, having to wear masks and the 6’ of separation calculation above is a frigging nightmare.
No more silly outdated notions about freedom, constitutional rights and elected officials being subservient to the people.
They just gave us a taste of what life will really be like if we don't stay in line and do as we are told in the future.
Newsom is scared because they have started the recall procedure!!
A church service is typically 60 to 90 minutes, as long as people in the pews are careful about no sneezing or coughing on each other (which polite people should know about anyway) and no shaking hands, there is no reason they couldn’t return to normal worship capacity.
Choir: The community choir in Washington State. Even though people were aware of the virus and took steps to minimize transfer; e.g. they avoided the usual handshakes and hugs hello, people also brought their own music to avoid sharing, and socially distanced themselves during practice. They even went to the lengths to tell choir members prior to practice that anyone experiencing symptoms should stay home. A single asymptomatic carrier infected most of the people in attendance. The choir sang for 2 1/2 hours, inside an enclosed rehearsal hall which was roughly the size of a volleyball court.
Singing, to a greater degree than talking, aerosolizes respiratory droplets extraordinarily well. Deep-breathing while singing facilitated those respiratory droplets getting deep into the lungs. Two and half hours of exposure ensured that people were exposed to enough virus over a long enough period of time for infection to take place. Over a period of 4 days, 45 of the 60 choir members developed symptoms, 2 died. The youngest infected was 31, but they averaged 67 years old. (corrected link)

Meanwhile my fave bar has been open through the shutdown, mainly in defiance to this shutdown and also the owner needs to pay bills and staff.
Just as people choose to do high risk activities like rock climbing, mountain biking, motorcycling, scuba, etc, we can choose to sing at church if we wish to take the risk.
The owner didn't get fined/cited/hauled into court for staying open?

Unfortunately, the usual close quarters presents a problem with an extremely contagious virus, you don’t have to be hacking and wheezing to spread it, Especially if when you’re packed in together for an hour or two. Not just churches, of course, anywhere people are jammed in together presents the same problem.

I love the Lord.
Possibly contagious strangers, not so much.
I am not scared to sing. I am just saying if they are going to say its dangerous then so what. We are allowed to do dangerous things.
The curve has been flattened, and hospitals are not overwhelmed. Therefore, it’s time to end the “shelter in place”. People can make their own choices, such as staying home if they are in a vulnerable group.

I suspect “keep the old folks in the basement” isn’t being received all that well, either. In some places, even a small shift in voters can make a big difference.
