Doors that are locked from the inside generally allow the door to be opened from the inside, and once the occupant leaves, the door closes and remains locked.

It has to be that way because of potential lawsuits.

I should add that the door being locked doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a second person being in the room when the death occurred.
