1000 (claimed) Chinese virus deaths is .0125% of the population. That is 1.25 deaths per 10,000 of the general population. Subtract nursing home deaths. That’s an entirely different risk factor compared to the rest of the population. Factor in that we know the government is fudging the numbers of *confirmed* virus deaths.
Why do I use the general population? We don’t really know how many people have contracted the virus because we don’t know how many asymptomatic people there are, but we do believe it is a high percentage. We don’t know how many people have come in contact with carriers and not contracted it due to natural resistance - again we believe that to be a lot.
What’s the traffic fatality rate in Richmond over three months? I have no idea. But I do know that if you want to have a rewarding life, you have risked it every single day that you got out of bed. You don’t stay in bed or lock yourself in your home. You assess the risks and rewards of everything you do in life, usually without conscious thought, and then you act accordingly. A rewarding life is not one where you fear leaving your home.
True story:
I had a potentially serious medical issue that my doctor was monitoring for about a year. When the lab numbers finally stabilized back in the normal range I said to my doctor “So, I’m not going to die”.
His response? (verbatim)
“Yes, you are going to die. All of my patients are going to die”.
“So that’s what 6 feet looks like”
Maybe a guy measured it? ;)

Honestly, after 10 years with him for my wife and me, we LOVE the man. He is a top notch diagnostician. He figured out something very serious with my wife that likely few others would have. May even have saved her life because it is so difficult to diagnose and if treated for what it appears to be (but is not) the treatment can be rather dangerous. Long story, will not bore anyone with it.
Plus, he is a really nice man & we have come to be friends over the years.
