Although I agree with your premise, we also need to remember that the USSR, with all its nation-states, nukes, and totalitarian control, did fall.
And to a large extend the USSR failed because of its inability to compete with the West financially. Reagan's policies broke them financially.
With China, the policies have been to enrich and empower the world's largest communist nation, probably the dumbest and most dangerous US foreign and trade policies in our history.
The policies have created the richest communist nation and the richest communist party in history.
