I followed Tony Fauci in residency by a couple of years.
He was already a legend in the 1970s. My seniors and attendings were not exactly what you would call humble shrinking violets - 100% agreement Fauci was the smartest guy and the best doctor any of them ever met.
When it was time to specialize in the lab, back then, the issue was what cell you would study. Almost everyone chose the bacteria-killing neutrophil. Fauci, for reasons not clear to anyone, chose the T4 lymphocyte, because its exact function was not well understood. He went to the NIH and set up what became the Laboratory of Immunoregulation, and a few years later, patients started showing up with profound T4 lymphocyte depletion and dysfunction - and the rest is history.
He climbed the greasy pole in the home city of greasy poles, was appointed by Ronald Reagan to head the national research effort into AIDS which produced unprecedented results in an unprecedently short time, and he stayed on top of that pole through Republican and Democrat administrations, right up to the present day.
Whatever you think about current affairs (and TF is not and has never been an epidemiologist), he's not 35 and he most certainly was at the top of his class.
He didn’t say he was 35 years old. He said 35 year bureaucrat.
No, I meant he’s been a bureaucrat for 35 years. I now realize that my wording wasn’t very clear. Sorry about that. :-)
Never let a technocrat make policy.
By their very nature they are like hammers - they see everything as nails to be pounded down.
Not saying that their advice should be ignored, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle. The person to make policy should be someone that will consider all the other pieces and who is accountable to the people. That would be the president.
He may or may not make the right decision and he will be rewarded or punished accordingly.
Bookmarked, lots of effort there.
Thank you.
The question isn’t who is right because cases can be made for both sides. The question is who is in charge? The answer is Trump so his decision is the only one that counts.
And that is what has people so riled up about this situation - nobody knows what the right decision is, there is a substantial chance that either choice (open or don't) will turn out to be wrong, with disastrous consequences (economic or infectious), clarity will emerge 15-30 days before an enormously consequential election, and people are really arguing about who will own the blame for a wrong choice - without actually knowing which choice is correct.
BTT
don’t forget CDC DIRECTOR REDFIELD EBOLA, DENGUE FEVER FIASCO
Pat got it wrong. It is not Fauci versus Trump. It is Gates and Rothschild vs. PDJT.
Pat got it wrong. It is not Fauci versus Trump. It is Gates and Rothschild vs. PDJT.””
It is Gates & Rothschild VS PDJT PLUS all of the American people.
Population reduction....Gates big push.
