I might even forgive Taibbi for his crude comments about Sarah Palin back in 2008. He and Dershowitz are two of the few Democrats who’ve been scandalized by the Obama administration/FBI’s behavior and the media’s complicity in it.

Democrats have BOTH parts of the phrase “civil liberties”. They are neither civil, nor do they have much to do with liberties.
Democrats have become a raging flash mob, organizing to rush in and storm those places they find vulnerable, then spreading their message outward, “See how terrible those people were!” Almost always, they have projected their own moral and character deficiencies upon those whom they have just savaged, and in the stampede, actually turn the wider public opinion.
“Civil liberties” to a Democrat means aborting babies, NAMBLA gatherings, hairy backed male chomos identifying as “girls” and going into the Girls room. Blacks beating up people for the fun of it, Illegals voting and collecting welfare. Getting sex changes at eight years old. On and on and on ad-vomitum...
As for those other things like Freedom of Speech and Religion. The right to peaceably assembly. The right to keep and bear arms. The right to your own property and earnings. Yeah, those are racist.

Democrats clearly believe constituents will forgive them for abandoning constitutional principles, so long as the targets of official inquiry are figures like Flynn or Paul Manafort or Trump himself. In the process, they’ve raised a generation of followers whose contempt for civil liberties is now genuine-to-permanent. Blue-staters have gone from dismissing constitutional concerns as Trumpian ruse to sneering at them, in the manner of French aristocrats, as evidence of proletarian mental defect.
The true face of evil that is that of today's Democrat party has come into focus with amazing swiftness, leading many observers to conclude that it was never more than lightly masked to begin with. They don't bother with all that now. To watch it in the person of Schumer or Schiff or especially Pelosi is to see something truly repellent and scarcely human.

The short answer is no, Matt, it isn't the Trump era, it's you, or rather it's what most Democrats have become, and not just since 2016. When reflexive hatred brings us the statement "America was never great" from the lips of people who owe their careers and very lives to that greatness then the rot is, in my opinion, irrecoverable. These are no longer Americans, nor do they wish to be.
