To be fair, that original model was with doing nothing - i scoffed with the rest....the model, when mitigation was mixed in, said 100K or more dead as the lower range...we are now approaching that number.
We will/can never know what it might have been - anyone holding on to the 2 million bit as reason to hate Facui just hates Fauci...no reason needed.
I'm not a Fauci fan, but have been listening to his actual words, in context with the questions and what many headlines scream and what many FReepers yowl about are not factual/in context remarks...many have become like the TDS folks (FDS folks?) - they hate Fauci enough they are willing to use half-truths/.untruths to justify themselves.

The problem with the lower range forecast is no one focused on that number. Policy made on the top (2 million) forecast number. Those numbers are not even close to each other. Sounds more like a clever guess made to prevent their apocalyptic position from being exposed.

True - it's one of the few things/forecasts that may actually come true - we'll never know what it might have been but I doubt it would have reached a million but could perhaps have doubled or tripled what we will actually see - of course if it doesn't die off, we may see Flu-type numbers for some time since this kind of virus has never been mitigated by a vaccine.
While I don't care for Fauci, i was glad when he said there's no guarantee any vaccine would be effective because, while many will continue to say we can't open until a vaccine exists, it give us ammo by the reality that we would literally have to close down forever if we wait for a vaccine.
