Gregory and Travis McMichael arrested, charged with murder in death of Ahmaud Arbery

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Thursday night announced the arrests of Gregory and Travis McMichael in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery following a storm of public outcry after video of Arbery’s death was made public.

The father and son were both charged with murder and aggravated assault, GBI said in a statement. They will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, according to the bureau. GBI earlier Thursday asked for patience in its investigation, which began Wednesday.

Before GBI began its investigation into Arbery’s death, the Glynn County Police Department contacted the bureau to “investigate allegations of threats against GCPD and individuals involved in the active investigation,” the bureau said in Thursday’s statement.

GBI added the investigation into Arbery’s death remains “active and ongoing.” The case is being investigated with District Attorney Tom Durden, who on Tuesday formally asked the bureau to investigate the death of Arbery.

Attorneys for Arbery’s family believe he was the victim of racial profiling after he was chased down while jogging and shot by two white men in a southern Georgia neighborhood as a third white man recorded the killing on video.

Arbery, 25, was shot and killed Feb. 23. Video of the incident has been widely shared on social media.

Gregory McMichael, a 64-year-old former police officer, and his adult son, Travis, 34, were captured on the video, which was taken by Travis’ neighbor, William Bryan.

This is great news, but if it had been 2 black guys who shot a white guy, it would only make the local news and then not by much. Compile a stack of papers documenting white on black violence next to a stack of papers documenting black on white violence, and you can guess which stack is higher... by a lot.

I’m not sure they will be convicted, but I do know the McMichael’s attorneys are going to make a lot of money on this case. Those lawyer bills are going to be hard to pay.

‘I’m not sure they will be convicted’

they’ll be convicted of something, because beyond doubt they are guilty of something; murder...? goes to intent...

Seems like Jennings Bryan is the one who screwed up.

Why would anyone want to make a “citizens arrest”? Why would anyone confront a man with drawn weapons? The word “white” or “black” should be left out of it.

There is some strikingly bad judgement at work here.

The older McMichael is a former police officer and a retired employee of the prosecutor’s office. On that basis alone I would assume that “Strikingly Bad Judgement” was his workplace nickname.

I guarantee this guy would have been out locking people up for being outside without face masks if he was still on the job.

From what I understand, this was a physical altercation between two men with a firearm present.

Didn't Arbery accidentally kill himself when he grabbed for the other guy's shotgun?

Ive seen that video several and damned if I see anything that suggests murder, all I see is a confrontation where the black guy is trying to take the gun. Talk about bad judgement. I could determine self defense as easily as any kind of murder from that video.

An investigator not an officer as such

A couple of yobs who decided they were going to take the law into there own hands. They saw a black man running. That’s it. There were no robberies or break in that day. It was day time

All he had to do was actually call the cops

You are being chased down by two guys yelling at you from a truck. You try and avoid them. They keep coming. The block you. One gets out with a gun and approaches you. You fight because you know the history

These two jerks need full justice

Lots of irrelevant statements here.

Two guys are charged with murder. A jury will decide their guilt or innocence. That jury will have a lot more information and guidance than any of us.

If I was in that situation then I would run to where the truck could not go. I would exit the street and make them chase me through the woods or where ever it is the truck could not go. I understand this jogger played football in high school and is very fit, that being the case I would run away from the bad guys with a gun and not towards anyone with a gun.

But that’s just me.

I don’t know all the facts yet but me with no gun runs for my life away from gun and not towards gun.

Ever.

Why did they chase him down though? What’s your explanation for that?

“There were no robberies or break in that day.”

More than the day - from the article:
The Glynn County Police Department said Thursday that it had no reports involving burglaries or home break-ins in the Satilla Shores neighborhood between Jan. 1 and Feb. 23.

Agreed. And the younger guy’s friend calmly filmed the whole thing?
