Sudan has criminalised carrying out female genital mutilation (FGM), making it punishable by three years in jail.
Some 87% of Sudanese women aged between 14 and 49 have undergone some form of FGM, according to the UN.

BBC Sudan analyst Mohaned Hashim notes that there have been previous attempts to ban FGM across the whole country but parliament under long-time leader Omar al-Bashir rejected the recommendations.

Long overdue to end this barbaric practice against women.
Talk about something that was 2000 years overdue. Sudan is so far behind the times and primitive that they lag the rest of the world by thousands of years.
The only honest thing that I can say to the filth infesting Sudan is “Step it up or forever be shunned by the civilized world.”
I don’t know if it was being practiced 2000 years ago, or it’s a more recent practice.
Pointless unless somebody has the guts to enforce, prosecute the law. Laws are feckless scarecrows otherwise.

Now maybe we can get this practice outlawed in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York.
I guess Sudan is more civilized than the “progressive” countries that are too PC to prohibit this practice.

In fact there are two Sudans. South Sudan is ‘Christian’ but it sucks even more than the simple Muslim Sudan.
Good luck enforcing it - even Europe and the US refuses to enforce those laws and look the other way as 15 year old girls spend their summers in ‘old country’, getting a ‘nick’ as Leftists often refer to FGM.

It’s better late than never, but will it actually get widely enforced?
