How can you not love dogs!??! There are exceptions but dogs are friendly, loyal and smart. They’re with us to the end. They serve as bomb, drug and other contraband detectors. They can, with some dogs, detect cancer!

Once, during WW1, a dog served with the Canadian Navy. His name was Gander, after the town in Newfoundland. He saw soldiers throwing grenades that had landed near them back at the enemy.

Finally the soldiers were too tired to continue. When a grenade landed near them, the soldiers tried to reach it but they could not.

So Gander picked up the grenade and ran towards the enemy. He kept running and running, until the grenade exploded in his mouth. There is a statue commemorating him in Gander.
