Your memory fails you. Bill Cassidy beat, quite handily, Mary Landrieu, who had won election three times, including beating John Kennedy in 2008.

Cassidy will win re-election handily this fall. He will have no GOP opposition, and no significant Democrat opponent. Edwards is the ONLY Dem who has statewide appeal. For some unknown reason, otherwise sane Louisiana conservatives are mesmerized by his act, and have fallen for it twice.

Looking at Landrieu’s previous election returns the GOP had a thought that she could be beat with more money, which they did not spend. They did beat her the next time. The Mary L campaign was weak from the start and the candidate had severe Potomac Fever and could not bother with a vigorous barnstorming campaign among the rubes (as she say them). Cassidy was mostly notable for saying nothing , which is what he has done since then. His ‘I can work with Hillary’ comment being one of the few memorable ones in office. I am saying the Dems have a opportunity to pick up a Senate seat in La. La never votes much like the rest of the country so a local good ole boy versus this empty suit of clothes could do the trick.
