I think the $600/week unemployment bonus was ill-thought out, and for other reasons than to encourage people to not return to work.
I’m not someone who thinks the extreme measures this country took were necessary. Saying that, the reality is that there was an economic stimulus package to deal with the fallout. The logic of giving unemployed people an extra large bonus on top of the $1200 one-time stimulus just appears, under any scrutiny, to be idiotic.
Why would the unemployed deserve even more money versus those of us that continued to work? It’s the essential workers that continued to brave the dangers of contracting Chinese virus. Surely, an unemployed individual was encouraged to shelter in place, being at far less risk of getting sick. So what amounts to a danger-pay (combat pay) bonus was dished out to precisely the opposite people that logically should have received it.
I’m not even arguing in favor of that bonus money, but if there was going to be danger pay, why the heck did it get awarded to the low risk unemployed?
None of the relief money existed at all. It's all paid for by borrowing.
My husband doesn’t believe that anyone in Washington is planning on paying it back. Not kidding. Our debt rose on steroids, staring with GWB, and accelerating exponentially with Bammy and now Trump is signing spending too much, too. I guess I’m starting to believe that this virus was released from China with the main intention of destroying Trump and our beloved country. With the Dems in charge again (please no, GOD!), China would be Top Dog. And the other Communist countries will have favor then, too.

Or he could just seize all Chinese government assets in the US to pay for it. Also a 500% tariff on Chinese goods and a 99% tax rate on American companies profits made in China.
