Coronavirus will trigger biggest ever plunge in energy demand, emissions: IEA

Global energy demand could slump by 6% in 2020 due to the restrictions placed on homes and industry in what would be the largest contraction in absolute terms on record, according to Paris-based IEA, which advises industrialised nations on energy.

The slump would lead to a drop in carbon dioxide emissions of 8%, six times larger than the biggest fall of 400 million tonnes recorded in 2009 following the global financial crisis, according to the IEA, which described its estimate as conservative.

...

Carbon intensive coal demand has so far been hit the hardest by the pandemic, with demand in both the first quarter and projections for 2020 as a whole down 8% compared with the same periods last year.

Global natural gas demand could fall by around 5% in 2020, while electricity generation fell by 2.6% in the first quarter but renewable power generation rose during the period by 3% with new wind and solar projects coming online.

...

The share of renewables in global electricity supply neared 28% in Q1 2020, up from 26% in Q1 2019 and is expected to reach 30% by the end of the year.

...

Oil demand fell by 5% over the first quarter but could ultimately be the worst hit fuel over 2020, with total demand down as much as 9%.

“At the current pace in the oil market, we may well see around mid-June the global storage capacity can be full,” Birol said, noting the problem was worst in North America.

Global oil demand is expected to fall a record 9.3 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2020 and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other top producers like Russia agreed to cuts of almost 10 million bpd, equivalent to about 10% of global production, starting on May1.

I’m sure this has nothing to do with it, but I’ve never seen an April in Charlotte with almost every day’s high at 60-70 and low from 45-55.

It’s been very cool and we only have one day in the next 10 days that reaches over 80.

Don’t worry, after the data is “cleaned” it will have been the hottest April on record.

This afternoon I purchased 5 gallons of gasoline for the gas can then went inside to buy a can of Copenhagen...the Copenhagen cost more.

Yes, the Copenhagen had about $4.50 in taxes in the price.

Well the greenies got what always got what they always wanted: power, control, complete totalitarianism and now this gift from the sky. I would say God but they don’t believe in God. They finally got emissions cut, bless their poor dear little hearts. *in best Southern style * that expression has always struck me as funny it’s mean as hell but said in a such a sweet way. LOL!

Just temporary. By Labor Day demand will be soaring. The upside is President Trump had the insight to refill the strategic oil reserves while the prices were low.

And smart airlines will buy the cheapest fuel futures in history. Find the airlines that invested in 10 years of fuel futures and you will have your best performing airline for the next decade. Buy some stock. Or some long options.
Money making idea of the year.

Funny, you should post that because I heard on the radio a few days ago, that this April was aiming to be the hottest ever on record, which made me laugh. I realize they take into account temps all over the world, but...

Oh, there’s lots to go in the oil reserves - plenty of room for more.

[[Global energy demand could slump by 6% in 2020 due to the restrictions placed on homes ]]

And that’s what it’s gonna be like when the left implement their global warming climate change laws rules regulations and fines- restrictions on how much fuel and electricity homes can go through
