Hartford Courant: Gov. Lamont Planning CT Reopening ‘In Secret’
Breitbart ^ | 30 Apr 2020 | Dr. Susan Berry

The Hartford Courant editorial board wrote Wednesday Connecticut citizens should be “frightened” that Democrat Gov. Ned Lamont is planning the state’s reopening from the coronavirus lockdown “in secret.”

The newspaper asserted Lamont, “in what appears to becoming a pattern in his administration,” is developing plans to reopen the state with a group of people who are not accountable to Connecticut taxpayers.

The editors stated about the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group:

The 43-member panel was created as part of AdvanceCT, a reboot of the former Connecticut Economic Resource Center. It’s described on its website as a “nonprofit organization that works to engage, retain and recruit businesses and advance overall economic competitiveness in Connecticut.”

So what does this all mean? It means the people who will be telling the governor when it’s safe to lift the lockdown won’t have to explain their thinking to anyone but the governor himself.

Noting the weight of the decisions that must be made, regarding both Connecticut residents’ physical and economic well-being, the Courant’s editorial board criticized Lamont for responding to questions about his and the panel’s decision-making with either of two responses: “Trust me,” and “I promise to tell you what you need to know.”

“Good government is about checks and balances, not blind trust,” the editors wrote.

The editorial comes as State Rep. Craig Fishbein (R) made a Freedom of Information request to Lamont for information regarding Connecticut’s involvement with the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group.

Fishbein said in a statement:

“with a group of people who are not accountable to Connecticut taxpayers”

Maybe he considers himself a “citizen of the world”

I ran for Fishbein’s seat back in 1996. Glad to see a Republican finally took it.

They should be frightened? That’s an overreaction. Now, if it were done in “double secret”, that would be a different story. Double secret anything is bad.

Conducting re-opening meetings and planning in secret? Sounds like a PERFECT avenue for graft and corruption to the secret planners.

He's a dem.

He doesn't care about anyone's opinion of what he does.

He's in charge and the taxpayers, who are supporting him just need to shut up and do as they are told, and keep forking over the money.

All state legislatures should get going right now on bills to restrict the powers of their governors in these “states of emergency.” The state of emergency should not be able to go for more than two weeks, it should have to be approved by the state legislature, and it should not be renewable without another approval from the legislature.

And it should not give a governor the right to declare herself the chief arbiter of everything, such as, for example, when Gretchen Whitmer, based on her vast but non-existent medical knowledge and hatred of Trump, told MI physicians that they couldn’t use the only effective treatment that had turned up at that point.

Governors seem to have powers that are greater than those of the US President, but they should also be subject to the will of the people as expressed through their elected representatives. This has been a demonstration of the abuse of power. It needs to be stopped.

Yep. No reason these shouldn’t have been open meetings recorded and with minutes taken. It would let citizens get a chance to see the ideas and comment as well, not just get a report and the end of the month based on whatever they came up with.

Same. They get 14 days. If they think they need longer they must present their plan in person to the legislature. And ever 14 days or any changes to the plan in the 14 day period require legislature approval.
