Singapore Extends Circuit Breaker to June 1
AsiaOne | APRIL 21, 2020 | LAM MIN LEE

The government has decided to extend the circuit breaker for four more weeks till June 1, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced today (April 21).

This is to keep everyone in Singapore safe, he said, after consulting with the multi-ministry task force (MTF) and assessing that "we will not be able to achieve our intended objectives by ending the circuit breaker on May 4."

The MTF's two objectives are to ensure that transmission in the migrant worker dormitories is under control and that it does not spread further to the community.

Current breaker measures will also be tightened further.

He asked Singaporeans to stay at home and only go out for essential needs such as buying food or necessities. Only one person from each household should be out at a time, and wear a mask while doing so.

Access to hotspots such as wet markets will be tightened to ensure sufficient safe distancing.

The authorities will also close more workplace premises to minimise contact among the workers. Only shops, supermarkets, factories and others which are providing the most essential services will remain open.

"The government understands the impact of these decisions on businesses and workers. Thus, the support measures announced earlier will be extended," he said.

PM Lee stressed the need for Singaporeans to continue to work with the government, especially the elderly who are more vulnerable to the coronavirus.

"Some say if they fall sick, it is their problem. However, if you are sick and pass the virus to others, it becomes everyone's problem."

He urged everyone to not take the coronavirus lightly and take preventive measures seriously.

"Let us all be socially responsible and protect ourselves to keep others safe."

Singapore will be the perfect example to prove definitely that lockdowns won’t work for this virus.

The Antibody test will be crucial for them to get all of the “foreign workers” that have already had the virus back to work.

To save the country from civil unrest (or at least an opposition party) they may realize at some point, “you can’t save everybody”. Only 11 deaths with the average age of 80 years old may not be worth destroying Singapore’s economy over.

If I was a 30 year old Capitalist, being told I can’t make any money for 4 months to save old, rich people living in $2 Million houses, I would be pretty pissed.

According to some people here, Singapore is shut down because they hate Trump and want to damage his re-election.

Those old, rich people are probably their grandparents.

Asians aren’t really, as a group, into geronticide.

They aren’t the grandparents of the $1.3M Foreign workers in Singapore, making singapore work.

This virus cannot be controlled, not even by Singapore.

The only viable option is “Lets not overload the hospitals, but everybody has got to get it”

Singapore will realize this soon enough (after their 3rd or 4th 4 week shutdown after a restart.)

Asians aren’t into geronticide.

But then I’m sure they’re destroying their economy just to get Trump.

Right?

Or maybe they’ve figured out that it really isn’t the flu.

Singapore is into control of everything.

They think they can control this virus.

3,500 new cases in the last 3 days has crushed this belief.
