An American patient diagnosed with the coronavirus (COVID-19) has been given a treatment by Israeli-based Pluristem that, so far, has a 100 percent survival rate.
The development, which occurred under the Israels compassionate-use program, comes days after the company released preliminary data showing that six critically ill coronavirus patients in the Jewish state who are considered high-risk received the Haifa-based companys placental cell-therapy treatment and survived one week later. The patient, whose condition was similar to the Israeli ones, was treated with Pluristems PLX cell therapy at Holy Name Medical Center in New Jersey, where the company is conducting a Phase III critical limb ischemia study.
The U.S. treatment was administered under the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations Single Patient Expanded Access Program, which is part of the U.S. Coronavirus Treatment Acceleration Program an emergency program aimed at getting treatments to corona patients as quickly as possible, reported The Jerusalem Post.
Pluristems PLX cells are allogeneic mesenchymal-like cells that have immunomodulatory properties, meaning they induce the immune systems natural regulatory T cells and M2 macrophages, the company explained in a previous release. The result could be the reversal of dangerous overactivation of the immune system. This would likely reduce the fatal symptoms of pneumonia and pneumonitis (general inflammation of lung tissue), according to The Jerusalem Post.
I wonder if this would help people with COPD.
This is stem cell therapy. SURE to be expensive. Also, it needs specialists to apply it. With thousands of critically ill patients, I wonder how many specialists there are for this...
Wonder how much it will cost per dose in the real world?

Israel has about a 1.3% death rate. I wonder if they tested more, whether this would drop further. Before anyone says anything, their new cases dipped around April 6th, they are past the peak.
A lot better than Sweden which at last calculation was pushing 11%.
Their stock price is very reasonable... I just bought some shares, thanks for posting
Yeah, like that is anywhere near the truth. People under 65 are not dropping like flies. It is just the amount of tests being done. This thing when it shakes out will be nothing but a bad flu.
Right now their mild cases are 96% of the total. Their daily case are dropping fast and they have the least restrictions of any country. This virus is not rampaging through their country.
Yep- For the most part then only the elite are going to get that treatment.
Don’t know about that.
15,322 confirmed cases, 1,765 deaths.
Pushing 12% now.
If you are referring to the death toll in Israel, today’s tally was at 184 for ALL reported deaths to date. Where does your number 0f 1,765 come from?
Sweden.... Israel is doing great.
