You can call me cautious, paranoid, ears to the ground, hoarder, doomsday apocalyptic whatever you want. I just say my #1 priority is to protect my family, hearth and home. I’m a freeper so you know I am already locked and loaded. But survival is more than just fending off looters.
So when Trump declared a ban on Asian flights on Jan 30, I just sensed in my bones something was dangerous looming on the horizon. I knew why, but didn’t know what the effect would be. The missus was up visiting her mother a couple hours drive north. I called her and said, go to the most remote Costco you can find and load the SUV up with canned and dried goods. She thought I was a little nuts. I told her I’d up the household allowance and reimburse her when she returned.
Fortunately, food supply has so far been stable, with a few exceptions. But we’ve got several months of stuff stocked away. Tuna, Sardines, dried and canned fruits, beans, rice, canned sauce, noodles and frozen meats. Best case, we’ll eat it over the next couple of years. Worst case, which seems less likely now but you never know, we’ll just eat it over the next couple of months.
You can’t really listen to the media. Right now they are just 100% contrarian to Trump regardless of the reality. But when the government bans all flights from a region, you know it is very serious. They were busy calling him a racist to realize he had real cause to take such an action. He wouldn’t do that because he’s a “racist” or “xenophobe”. Even if he was a racist, which I don’t believe, there are just too many vested interests to allow such an edict without merit. So when he did it, I knew we were in for a poop-storm. All the deaths and misery is horrible to watch and read, but thank God so far we have escaped without major disruption to food supply and essentials.
The Gates better head to New Zealand cause my bandit team will be hitting Mercer Island some time after the festivities begin.

I have several months of food in my home. This is nothing new but just common sense. I also live on 9 acres of land with much game. Each year we harvest about 200 lbs of venison. It is delicious. That 200 lbs is shared between I and my neighbor. We could easily increase our kill. That is all we need.
I prepare cheddar cheese, by getting a 40 lb block (about 150 for the extra sharp) and cut it into sizes that work for me. Then you dip them in cheesewax, which you can get at any farm store, or on amazon. There’s youtube videos on the right way to do it. It will keep 25 years without refrigeration.
Canned butter lasts years if stored properly. Wheat, if stored properly, can be kept 25 years, and ground for flour as needed. Powdered yeast will keep for years, if unopened. The older it gets, less and less yeast will “wake” up, so probably get a jar every few years, just in case. Buy sugar, molasses, cooking oil, and salt, in mass quantities, and make sure you store both properly (5 gal food grade pails with lids) Jarred spices are great, but make sure you have seeds for your faves.
I make my own jerky, and can it, with the oxygen absorbers. No telling how long it’ll last, but I’d guess 10 years. No substitute for beans and rice, given how long both can last, as long as you have spices you can add, like mex, cajun, etc. Pasta, Canned tuna, chicken, and even beef are good for years. I have fresh seeds for the plants I’d expect I could grow, and enough canning jars to put up the harvest. Fruit trees, berry bushes of many varieties, and nut trees.
You can harvest acorns, smash them with rocks, and put them in a cheesecloth, or some porous cloth, and soak them in water for at least 24 hrs to get rid of the bitterness (tannic acid). If you soak them a second time in fresh water, they’ll be even less bitter. Then let them dry and grind them for flour. High protein pancakes. Got plenty of snaring supplies, and lead. Plenty more, but these are my off the top of my head ideas for a home pantry. We eat out of it, all the time, so at any given moment, we have at least a years supply of food around.

His wife Melinda makes a statement like she has some boxes of emergency food next to the cardboard boxes and the ironing board by the washer/dryer. His "basement" is probably the size of a stadium parking garage.

I hate to have to tell you, Melinda, but in case of a pandemic or other disaster severe enough to cause civil unrest, those drug-addicted homeless people are going to make a bee line for that basement.
I’m sure that will no less than 1000 pounds of wagu steak among their “essentials” too. Hopefully they have lots of the Vaccines that want to pump into the world for themselves as well.
