Earlier this week, Huawei, detecting a change of heart by the Brits due to anger over the coronavirus, sent a threatening letter to Johnson.

Good move, China.

If your customer it having second thoughts, threaten them. That always works.

Awesome. Finally. I’ve been contemplating all through the Corona nightmare just how radically worse it would be if the internet started “acting up.”

Those of us who are international businessmen are busy making money in this time of crisis.

Some work is essential and is being continued on a limited basis

On a recent software upgrade on my samsung galaxy s8 an unwanted auto hookup to my home wireless router was added, allowing access to any device on the system.

It took a while to find the setting to deactivate.

The next software upgrade automatically switched the function back on.

It also automatically saves the router access password.

Something to watch for if using a Samsung smartphone.

Where was your Samsung made/manufactured? It’s a South Korean product.

5G brings more than just more bandwidth. Round trip communications between devices also has a much lower latency which can enable more applications & use-cases at the network edge (IoT).

I’d prefer (most of) my devices to be purely thin-clients, just a presentation layer of applications being run elsewhere in the cloud - always backed up, available from anywhere. Handheld devices would be very cheap.

This particular Samsung was made in Vietnam.

When COVID-19 hits very close to ones self or family the ‘reality’ of it’s threat will alter how one views the disease and everything else that surrounds ones decisions regarding life and the responsibility for safety and security.

Seems cheap until access is lost.

I would prefer mine to be thin clients connecting to a home hub. Minimal dependence on strange servers and hackers.

I think I read once that 5G is line-of-sight. Is that true?

I wonder if this is related to the recent announcement from the FCC, to allow commercial licensing of some of the precious L-Band frequencies, for 5G use in the USA.

Maybe that was a fundamental competitive advantage. Those frequencies (Like the nearby frequency band used for GPS) really carry and penetrate through vegetation and obstacles, so stuff keeps working while you move.

Technically most radio communications that aren’t shortwave and the like are line-of-sight...

...why I say “most of” - but not all. I think there could be a huge upside for corporate use, especially smaller companies that can’t afford equipment for all. A “compute service” company can provide cheap devices and back-end compute power, host all needed applications, keep everything backed up - while being encrypted so nobody can snoop on the data.
