Another reason that Blacks and Hispanics have been hit so hard is that they have darker skin. It seems that Vitamin D is helpful in combating Covid. D is formed in oils on the skin by the sun and then absorbed into the body. Darker skin was a genetic adaptation to keep too much D from being absorbed in tropical areas. Also, Vitamin D is only in a few foods. Many are lactose intolerant and don’t get the D from milk. Elderly don’t get out in the sun much especially in cold weather. Blacks and Hispanics are over represented in the food industries, grocery stores, restaurants, warehouses, which gets them exposed a lot.
