Former Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said the US fleet is facing an "acute problem" with the coronavirus pandemic and suggested it needed to make drastic measures.
"People do not have any way to social distance on any Navy ship, but particularly a carrier," Mabus said. "You've got almost 5,000 people here. And they literally are on top of each other."
"I think what they need to do is bring every ship in," Maybus said. "... Offload most of the crew ... leave a very skeletal force on board, sanitize the ship, quarantine people for two weeks, make sure nobody's got COVID."

I’m not sure when, but America needs to come to grips that we’ve been attacked (intentionally or inadvertently) by a weapons grade virus created in a lab in Wuhan, China. This isn’t the flu.
Now this is a tough one. I completely agree that a ship is extremely vulnerable. I don’t think you can “bring them all in”.
I’m glad I don’t have to make this call. It will be interesting to see how it is handled.
Why would you bring in a ship that has been out for over two weeks and no one has it?

Exactly. If the ship is COVID-19 free, keep them at sea. No port calls until the social distancing period is over. It would for sure suck for the sailors, but they would remain disease free and the ship combat ready.
If the crew members are on top of each other on an aircraft carrier imagine being a crew member of a submarine or an aircraft.
