Michigan citizens have been flooding a petition at Change.org calling for the removal of Governor Gretchen Whitmer, accusing her of gross negligence and failures in handling the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Recall Governor Whitmer” petition alleges the governor’s measures, such as “closing and banning various non essential business’s [sic] and activities while leaving others open,” are actually “causing more Michiganders to get sick.”
Launched three weeks ago by John Powell, the petition has picked up steam in past days following the governor’s extension of a stay-at-home order and raising penalties for non-compliance to a $1,000 fine and/or six months in jail.
In just the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday, the petition garnered more than 50,000 new signatures as citizens rush to express their displeasure with the governor, bringing the total number of signatories past the 200,000 mark.
Along with an extension on the statewide lockdown, Whitmer issued new restrictions on stores limiting the number of people in the store at one time to no more than four customers for every 1,000 square feet of customer floor space. Stores must also cordon off areas dedicated to carpeting, flooring, furniture, garden centers, plant nurseries, or paint.
Commenters wondered aloud what possible health concern could motivate the governor to keep people from planting seeds or repainting parts of their homes.
Michiganders have also accused Whitmer of neglecting their interests while attempting to curry favor with presumptive Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, who has signaled he is considering bringing her on as running mate.
“Her priorities are no longer the residents of Michigan but her possible position as V.P. for Biden,” wrote Patricia Duncan.
Biden brought Whitmer onto his podcast on April 6, in which he praised her for the job she is doing in Michigan.

Bimbo iz as bimbo duz.
Michigan is far too Dem to oust her.
Doesn’t seem like Governor Witless cares what people think or say about her.
All she cares about is being Clueless Joe’s VP
Does this online petition have any PRACTICAL effect? Will it result in a RECALL VOTE?
It would have a much greater effect if 200,000 Citizens marched in to the US Attorneys Office Demanding FELONY Deprivation of Rights charges be filed against her.
So,200k signatures
How many are required to force a recall?
Might result in 200,000 arrests. Yes, she’s that crazy.
She wants total control of the food supply. Seeds are scarce world wide.
Stupid skirt!
Even Judge Napolitano is on the correct side of this issue. Lately, he’s been off the rails most of the time. He’s outraged at Michigan governor, and said Costco, Walmart, etc., should defy her orders on what citizens may, and may not, buy. Sell anything you want to.
Well duh if we let people grown their own food, we won't be able to blame the eeeeeeevil Orange Man Bad for them being hungry right before the election.
She's concerned that this will be bad for the health of the democrat party!
Online petition is informal, it gives an idea of support level, if a formal petition might be worth pursuing.
Formal petition requires signatures on paper.
There a march on Lansing, MI’s capital, forming up now...
In times such as these, we see the rise of petty tyrants. That said, if the people of Michigan fail to get her out, they deserve her.
This is hugh. And series. Voters may or may not oust Gretchen dearest, but the tarnish is on for whatever time she continues to serve in office.
If we are fortunate, Joe Biden selects Gretchen to be his running mate, the Democrat ticket goes down in flames in November, and we do not hear of Gretchen or Joe again, until they have indictments against both of them on two separate series of charges, her for malfeasance of office while governor, and him for his dealings with the Ukrainian and Chinese governments.
She really stepped in it by banning motor boats on lakes during walleye season.
