Refugee contractors, like the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) and Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), have issued statements supporting House Democrats’ “No Ban Act” to end presidential-issued travel bans and continued refugee resettlement into the U.S. The State Department has halted refugee resettlement in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, though a handful of “emergency” refugees have been resettled over the last week.
Refugee contractors have a vested interest in making sure as many refugees are resettled across the U.S. as possible because their annual federally-funded budgets are contingent on the number of refugees they resettle.
“While we understand the challenges of responding to a global pandemic, we are deeply saddened that on the very day we mark the 40th anniversary of the landmark Refugee Act of 1980, the United Nations has suspended refugee flight departures,” LIRS President Krish O’Mara Vignarajah said in a statement after the United Nations announced they would suspend facilitating refugee resettlement.
Refugee resettlement costs American taxpayers nearly $9 billion every five years, according to the latest research. Over the course of five years, an estimated 16 percent of all refugees admitted will need housing assistance paid for by taxpayers.

We shouldn’t be taking many refugees. We should have a merit based system to determine who gets in and the number who do get in each year should be limited. The majority of the American people want less immigration - yes, including legal immigration.

HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) was once a very good force for good, helping not only Jewish refugees and immigrants over the past century, but also Ethiopians fleeing the “Red Terror” of Marxist dictator Mengistu, as well as others from Moslem and/or African countries (The numbers were relatively small compared to other refugee aid organizations, by design, so that they could be cost effective without a huge bureaucracy.
Today, they have gone to the Left re Latin American ILLEGAL immigrants. That is why they have lost my support.
I would like to see every refugee agency in America wiped out. No exceptions. And while we’re doing that, let’s deport all illegals - again no exceptions.
Ask any lib this. If we have an effective UN, then why do refugees exist at all? We’ll wait.
