In our Costco, each person must have a shopping cart. If it is a husband and wife and two kids, the husband takes a cart and one child and the wife takes a cart with the other. They are treated as two separate units and only go through when two separate people leave he store. All carts are wiped down with sanitizer as they are taken into the store.

While this is no doubt true (I saw it yesterday, did a Costco run), don’t think it’s a be-all on sanitizing. They’re using Clorox wipes. Clorox wipes do not contain bleach, it’s just a brand name thing. The sanitizer is quaternary ammonia, a very common food service sanitizer. I bought some tablets early on that are for making gallons of quaternary ammonia solution, and have some in a spray bottle.

Unfortunately, in digging into it, it doesn’t appear that quaternary ammonia is very effective against coronaviruses. At least, they’re not on the FedGov list of Stuff What Is Good For Sanitizing Against CV-19. Or weren’t a few days ago when I looked.

While it’s likely someone useful, don’t think it’s as good as wiping down with alcohol.

My $0.02.
