My sense is that social distancing is not a bad idea. New York City is a hot spot because their mass transit puts people who are infected in close proximity to others multiple times a day. New Orleans became a hot spot because Mardi Gras put people who were infected in drunken close proximity to other for hours on multiple days.

I think that people started getting exposed back in late November or early December. That can't be proved though without massive testing. Also, it is time to open up the country again and people should be urged to continue to wear masks, but the economy needs to move forward.
