I don’t remember at all their being restrictions on what days you were able to “go out” or not during the gas crisis; as opposed to restrictions on what day you could buy gasoline - depending on whether the first (or last) number on your license plate was odd or even. Odd number on license plate = you could buy gas on odd-numbered days.
