We do not know exactly how the letter got to the media. If indeed, he leaked it himself, then he deserves to be fired. Just sending the letter I do not think would have gotten him fired. I haven’t read the letter so I cannot say about its tone or content, but just informing the chain about a serious problem would not get someone fired. It is actually his duty. With what little we know now, I would wager he was fired because he leaked it to the media. Very stupid if he did that.
