Given what he did, and when he did it, he should receive a death penalty.
Conduct unbecoming of an Officer!
You’d think after the War Machine guy (McChrystal) high ranking military would know that slipping info to the media in order to pressure your political overlords will toast your muffin immediately.
Well its pretty obvious hes not in the top 11 Americans who should be had control of the fleet carrier. Maybe hes number 20 or 25 in line. But hes not in the top 11. And thats the number that counts.
I think the biggest thing he did wrong in that letter, was the content. His focus was only on the well-being of the crew, and nothing else. There was no concern at all in the letter for specific things he needed to keep the aircraft carrier combat ready...none. He didnt request any supplies, he didnt request emergency crew replacements from one of the carriers in home port right now.
And to add insult to injury, he said the most idiotic thing a man in his position should ever say. He said this is not war time. That is the most poisonous mentality a military leader of a strategic asset can ever have.
That phrase is always associated with somebody intending to perform substandard behavior. Hey, this is not war time.
Ok thanks. I worked for 3 years on a military base as the sole civilian defense contractor working with Navy soldiers/sailors....I never understood more than 20% of the lingo used.
You can bet they have 1 or 2 on that carrier.
What did he say?
Judging from the Captains photo, when is it a good idea to promote Robin Williams twin brother to such a high position?
Take you pay and hit the bricks.
The man sent the message by email, according to the article. How in heck did a moron of this ineptitude earn the command of the most powerful, most important fighting platform in the world? Somebody should track back like they do with Coronavirus and fire a couple decision makers in his history.
Excellent. The system works.
Knothead.
I dont think this was in anyway a misdemeanor he leaked to a newspaper that HIS ship was not combat ready letting ALL of our enemies know this, this man does NOT have what it takes to command a war ship NO WAY!!!
But most of all, look at his official portrait. He sitting there grinning like a simpleton. In large parts of the world sitting there grinning like that reveals you to be an idiot, or a simpleton.
Look at the portraits of Nimitz, Kincaid, Spruance, Mitscher, Badger, Halsey, King. In every portrait of them, they look half pissed off, and almost annoyed that they had to sit there for a picture.
The liberal de-press will twist this to his being an honorable officer standing up for his crew.
Thats not accurate. We had a lot of high ranking officers in charge of combat elements at the start of WW2. Some got a lot of good men killed. As things progressed peace time promotions showed who was fit and who wasnt. Slowly good combat officers emerged. Late in the war we had the best, desk jockeys sat at desk and real soldiers fought. We have a peacetime Navy. It takes a good officer to fight the ship. Read Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Its a steep curve, in the meantime we lose soldiers and sailors.
How did he ever rise that high?
Amazing.

This is a fantastic talk about the way generals were constantly fired in World War II. And why the American military became so damn good. Its exactly what you were describing, only with details I have never heard before.
There is probably a lot of Intel gathering going on right now... Will be a lot of debriefings, not leaving any stone unturned or any friskiness on the part of the opposition.
Thrown out of the service.
