the reason I ask is it possible some would push the covid diagnosis just to get better reimbursement?....I know the docs and case managers have a way of fudging around orders and progress notes to justify certain things.....but they have to in reality.....
They system relies on honesty plus the fact that Medicare and insurance companies do recovery audits by medical review of records to determine accuracy of the submitted diagnosis. Admittedly the system can be gamed and it was back in 90’s by inflating diagnosis codes. Now the risk of DRG creep being caught is greater.
