Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has banned abortions in the state in order to preserve medical resources to help fight the coronavirus. She said anesthesiology machines used during abortion procedures might instead be converted to function as ventilators so they can function as legitimate health equipment in a time of need.
Reynolds, who is pro-life, signed a state public health emergency declaration Friday that stops all nonessential medical procures to conserve medical resources. On Sunday, she clarified that killing babies in abortions is considered non-essential. That “does include surgical abortion procedures,” Reynolds said during a Sunday press briefing
“Making sure that we have the personal protective equipment to care of those Iowans who are on the front lines serving Iowans and those in need,” Reynolds says, “…to make sure that we have our health care providers and our first responders healthy so they can take care of Iowans.”
Abortion businesses will have to make sacrifices to protect the lives of patients during this medical crisis, she explained.
“Everyone is making is making sacrifices,” Reynolds says. “Everyone.”
The news report indicates the Planned Parenthood abortion company is assessing Governor Reynold’s order and may consider a lawsuit similar to the one in Texas after Governor Greg Abbott issued a similar order stopping non-essential medical procedures in his state to help coronavirus patients.

Ohio has issued a similar order as well and, according to the Ohio State Medical Association, the order to top non-essential surgery means:
Only scheduled surgeries and procedures that meet one or more of the following criteria as it relates to the patient’s medical condition will be allowed:
There is a threat to the patient’s life if the surgery or procedure is not performed;
There is a threat of permanent dysfunction of an extremity or organ;
There is a risk of metastasis or progression of staging;
Risk of rapidly worsening to severe symptoms (time sensitivity).
If the surgery or procedure does not meet one of the above criteria, then it must be canceled, according to state health authorities.
Abortions do not fit any of those categories. They are elective procedures done to kill unborn babies. Recently, medical groups representing more than 30,000 doctors in America emphasized that abortions are not “essential” or “urgent,” and abortion facilities that continue to operate during the pandemic are being “medically irresponsible.”

When I read “convert anesthesiology machines to ventilators” my first reaction was “there’s no way.”
So I searched and found lots of articles on precisely that! Here’s one...
Fearing shortage, hospitals convert other machines into ventilators.
With most of its ventilators already attached to COVID-19 patients, a top New York hospital system is repurposing its anesthetics-dispensing devices and other equipment into makeshift breathing machines.
The Northwell hospital system that runs the Lenox Hill, Long Island Jewish and Staten Island University hospitals says 75 percent of its ventilators are already occupied — with the apex of the coronavirus crisis still weeks away.
“We’re converting 300 anesthesia machines into ventilators,” Northwell spokesman Terry Lynam told The Post.
